M&T Bank Visa Credit Card Review

A basic credit card, the M&T Visa Credit Card has no annual fee. You can take advantage of a 0% introductory APR on purchases and balance transfers for the first 12 months. If you bank with M&T, you can link your credit card to a checking account for overdraft protection.

  • Need a 0% introductory APR on purchases and balance transfers for the first 12 months.
  • Prefer to avoid annual fees.

There’s not much to the M&T Visa Credit Card, so you don’t need to do much to make the most of using it. The best feature is the 0% introductory APR on purchases and balance transfers for the first 12 months, which you can use to save on interest. Whether you’re transferring a balance or financing a large purchase, you should divide your balance by 12 to plan how much you need to pay each month to pay off the balance before interest charges apply. However, be aware that there’s a balance transfer fee of 4% with a $10 minimum. There’s also a 3% foreign transaction fee, so this card isn’t good for traveling abroad.

If you’re an M&T Bank customer, you can link a checking account to this card for overdraft protection.

Editor’s Take

If you need a no-frills credit card with a 0% introductory APR or no annual fee, the M&T Visa Credit Card can fit the bill. It’s especially helpful if you have an M&T Bank checking account and want to add this credit card as a backup for overdraft protection.

That said, this card doesn’t offer much compared with many other credit cards, even cards with no annual fee. For example, Chase Freedom Unlimited® has no annual fee, earns rewards and has a 0% introductory APR offer on purchases and balance transfers.
