Aamer Jamal took six wickets on debut as Pakistan bowled out Australia for 487 on the second day of the opening Test in Perth on Friday.
The hosts resumed on 346-5 after opener David Warner scored a defiant 164 on the opening day, with Mitchell Marsh on 16 and Alex Carey 15.
An untroubled Marsh looked destined for a fourth Test ton, but he was bowled by paceman Khurram Shahzad for 90 on the first ball after lunch.
Jamal then quickly removed Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon, both caught by Agha Salman.
He earlier trapped wicketkeeper-batsman Carey, eager to make runs to cement his Test spot after losing his place in Australia’s one-day team to Josh Inglis.
Carey survived a big lbw call from Shaheen Shah Afridi on the second ball of the day, but he had no answer to a lightning-quick Jamal delivery that rattled his off stump.
It snapped a dangerous 90-run partnership, with Carey out for 34.
Starc also fell victim to Jamal, getting an edge to another pacy ball that removed the bails.
Shahzad concluded with figures of 2-83, but fellow debutant Aamer Jamal stole the spotlight with 6-111. This marks the first instance in Pakistan’s 71-year Test history where debutant bowlers collectively secured eight wickets in a single innings.

Jamal is the second Pakistani, after Arif Butt, to achieve a five-wicket haul on debut on Australian soil, with Butt achieving it in Melbourne in 1964. Jamal’s performance ranks as the sixth-best bowling figures by a Pakistani player on Test debut.
